I have been working on this with my friend Katy. I thought I would post a picture of what I have done so far on it. A link for the pattern is below the picture. I added notes to the picture so you can see what each stitch looks like so far. Using a plain yarn rather than a variegated one lets the stitches stand out.

The author has included many photos so you can see what each stitch looks like. She also included very detailed step-by-step instructions for each stitch! I still consider myself a beginner and I am not having any problems following along.

It's on!

Hey friends!
I hope the new year is being good to everyone! It has certainly been good to me so far!

I am getting my sugar scrub recipe squared away. The trial and error process has been interesting to say the least... I attempted a rosemary scrub with a green tint and ended up with something that looks like seaweed sludge :-\ Onward and upward, though. I fixed the problem by deciding to just use oil, sugar, and essential oils; no colors. I found that if I use plain, raw sugar (not bleached, white sugar) then it ends up with a nice natural color to it that doesn't need any additives.

I've found a wholesale container shop online as well so I can order proper packaging for the products. For my testers, I sent out 4 ounce glad containers lol. I hope they travel okay wrapped in bubble wrap. I certainly don't plan to use them permanently, that's for sure.

The next product up is bath salts. I have a basic recipe I will be tweaking a bit and sending around to my testers.

And as always, the crochet hook continues on. I am signed up for two new classes in February and March, and am hoping to master those patterns so I can add some more stock to the store.

The store will be up and running within a week or two! My lovely sister-in-law has agreed to play dress up for my camera so I can get some better shots of the merchandise. I will pass the link out as soon as the revamped store is up and running!

I am planning to run some specials too once I have my bath products solidified. Watch this space for coming attractions!

Hello everyone. The holidays have been going great. Been working hard and got all of the gifts finished. I managed to make an extra scarf too! I'm working on making some new things for the etsy shop.

I am making some changes in the coming weeks. I set up this new blog and attached it to my ravelry.com account. I am going to be changing the etsy account as well and I will be sure to link everyone to the new one.

Also! I am expanding and developing bath products. I am working with some great recipes for bath salts and sugar scrubs. I'll be offering some free samples to a small group of people to get feed back on things before I actually sell things in the shop.

The husband an I are off to the in-laws for New Year's Eve so have a great night everyone!

Hi everyone!
I've been hard at work with the crochet hook and yarns lately.
Here is a pic of what I am creating. These have not been blocked yet, so they don't look like perfect squares. I'm waiting on an ironing board and iron so I can make them pretty.

I am creating this mesh open-stitch cloths which are roughly 9x9. After I have 25 of them made, I am going to block them all and then stitch them together to create a blanket. It is going to be a Christmas gift for my grandmother on my boyfriend's mom's side of the family. So grandma-in-law.

I thought it would be fun since I can make these in my sleep practically, and it is a great way to get rid of some of the small balls of yarn that seem to take up the bottom of my yarn tote.

As always you can find me on Ravelry and Etsy I will be adding stock to Etsy after the holidays. I know it seems an odd way to do it, but since I am hand making all my gifts this year, I haven't had time to build stock.

I've been hard at work lately! I'm making scarves and hats for a lot of people for Christmas this year.

I have enough oil to make one batch of soap, so I need to get on buying some more. I have been trying to find autumn fragrances like pumpkin, cinnamon, etc, but most of the ones I have found at the craft store are for home fragrance use, and not recommended for soaps or lotions. I'll probably have to order something online instead, or from Soap Opera in Iowa City.

So plans are in the works to develop and expand the soaps. I'm going to add bath salts to the mix as soon as I can afford to do so. In the mean time I am working on marketing ideas and promotions and all the other stuff that goes with trying to expand a small enterprise into a self-sustaining entity.

But enough of that for now. I'm pretty far behind on the NaNo word count, and my sister-in-law is coming in a little while for a write-in. So I am off for now.

Good night, everyone.

Head over to my Ravelry Projects Page and check it out! I finished the tote the day before yesterday and then felted it the first time that evening. I wasn't terribly keen on the way it came out...the stitches were still too individual.

Last night it was felted again, and it looks great! The picture looks a little blurry, but it's really not! That's the variegated color showing against one another.

I'm going to set up an image account on flickr or photobucket or something, so that way folks don't have to constantly go to another site away from DW just to see my stuff. Probably going with flickr since I've heard better things about it than about photobucket.

Will try to post some new things on the Etsy Store soon too. I need to purchase an ironing board, some pins, and an iron so I can block everything and make it look sharper.

Goodnight all!

Good evening, friends.
I'm taking a class in which we are creating felted tote bags. It's going to be lovely when it's finished, I just know it. I will post an in-progress picture at the end of this post.

I've decided to test some felting ideas with Red Heart Super Saver yarn. It's 100% wool as far as I can tell from the packaging, so it should felt nicely. The yarn I'm using for the tote bag is from Michael's and is by Patons, created specifically for felting projects.

The plan is to make several small rectangles out of the Red Heart yarn with various hook sizes and stitch sizes. I am using the G, I, and M hooks and single, half-double, and double crochet. So I will end up with 9 swatches in the end.

Some of them are going to be felted by hand in the kitchen sink with dish soap, since I don't own a washing machine in which to do it properly. I've been told it is possible to felt this way, however it is time-consuming, so I go into it knowing this.

The rest of the swatches will be thrown in with the next load of towels or jeans which go to the laundromat. The idea is to see how things turn out, and take detailed notes for future reference. The tote bag will go in the washing machine properly since I'm spending so much time creating it.

I figure if I can felt small things like pouches and such at home that would be convenient even if a little time-consuming. Larger projects will go in a washer.

I have added some items to the shop, and I have plans to create some nice, but affordable business cards. I would like this to be more than just a hobby. I'd like to turn it into a crafty, crafty enterprise. It takes a lot of work though, but I know this, and I don't mind.

In the works also is a plan to contact the folks who facilitate the Farmers Markets in the summer. If I have enough products to make it worth it, I may set up shop there a few times and see how things sell.

After the felting experiments, I would like to work on adding a line of laptop cases and tote bags to my inventory! Have a great evening, and I'll talk to you all later. It's time for me to head off now.

I've had a blast today (Saturday) in Bluffs, Illinois with our friends. Margaritas and Mexican food were had and a pumpkin was carved!

I got plenty of crocheting done as well. I finished one of the camera case/small drawstring pouches I was working on. I also got quite a lot done on my felted bag that I am creating.

Here are some photos before I sign off! The camera case is going up in the shop Sunday evening when I return home. The felted bag may follow at some point if it's good enough to sell. Otherwise I'll make another and another until it's perfect!

Good afternoon, Everyone! I'm sitting in a study room at one of my local libraries, doing some homework and crocheting my heart out.

I learned to crochet about four years ago, but put it aside for a year or so when other things took up too much of my time. I just recently picked it up again and have finally learned how to read a pattern! LoL. I have gone all this time never knowing what all the abbreviations mean on the patterns I see.

Now that I am armed with this information, I am going to look for some things to create. Currently I'm taking a few crochet classes. They are further honing my skills with the hook. I've set up shop on Etsy because there are only so many camera cases, mp3 player pouches and purses that I myself need in one day. I figured I might as well put the rest of my creations out there into the world so others can enjoy them...and I can fund this new addiction I've picked up.

I'm on Ravelry.com as Viktorja as well. So stop on by and see what's brewing in the yarn basket :) (Im' new to the site, so still putting things up.

Or check out my shop on etsy: Blue Morpho Designs

I take custom orders as well, of course. I generally buy what I think other people will like and what I myself like, but there are as many varied tastes as there are people in the world!

Have a great evening!
