The weather here can't decide what it wants to be when it grows up. One day it's hot out, the next it's cold. Fall is definitely upon us; has been for some time now, at least here in the Midwest.

I found a great looking shrug on the Lion Brand website that I wanted to try. I am about 95% done with it. I am adding some extra rows to each side so that the sleeves will be a little longer.

It is a super easy project though, and I feel that a beginner could even handle this. If you can make a single crochet stitch, you can do this! It is a longer project because you're basically making a large rectangle.

Here is the link to the pattern I used: Simple Shrug. Lion Brand's site has the same pattern under a couple of headings, made out of different types and colors of yarn, but the pattern is basically the same.

I used two colors for mine, alternating every 13 rows until it was the right size.

Herb Garden by Lion Brand Homespun

Wild Fire by Lion Brand Homespun

It's coming out beautifully. I am hoping to finish it soon, so I can start wearing it! Pictures will be posted as soon as I have the finished product.

(all images/patterns copy righted by Lion Brand Yarns)

comments

Hi, folks! I have been away for quite a while. April was the last time I posted. A lot has happened in the last 6 months. Moved into a new apartment, did the whole Farmers Market Scene. The summer was pretty great. Now fall is upon us; or rather, has been upon us for some time now.

The weather here can't decide what it wants to be when it grows up. One day it's hot, the next it's cold.

So, I took some time to plan out a real blog this time. I am hoping to have a pattern posted soon. I have been working on writing one myself, from scratch, and it is a bit harder than it seems. I am winging it more or less. I just have to proof read it and see if I can follow my own directions, and then I shall share it with you all :)

The plan is to share patterns, ideas, tutorials, and just fiber art information in general.

You can find me on Ravelry under the user name NCC-1701. I'm on a few of the forums there.

comments

It's been a little while since I made a post here on the blog. I have been lax in keeping up with the many networks to which I post. My apologies. I don't think I have too many readers here though anyway, so hopefully my posts to the other places have been seen.

I am well on my way to being ready for my grand opening debut at the Farmer's Market on Wednesday May 2nd. I am looking forward to making my little enterprise a huge success! I have tons of handmade accessories ready to go too. Fingerless gloves, dreadlock tams, and some lovely slouchy hats made of lightweight fiber to ensure comfortable wear through the spring and summer.

I've worked out the kinks in the recipe and in the containers/packaging and should have some pics to share soon.

Have a great day everyone!

Etsy Shop

Facebook

and on Ravelry!

comments

Hey friends!
I hope the new year is being good to everyone! It has certainly been good to me so far!

I am getting my sugar scrub recipe squared away. The trial and error process has been interesting to say the least... I attempted a rosemary scrub with a green tint and ended up with something that looks like seaweed sludge :-\ Onward and upward, though. I fixed the problem by deciding to just use oil, sugar, and essential oils; no colors. I found that if I use plain, raw sugar (not bleached, white sugar) then it ends up with a nice natural color to it that doesn't need any additives.

I've found a wholesale container shop online as well so I can order proper packaging for the products. For my testers, I sent out 4 ounce glad containers lol. I hope they travel okay wrapped in bubble wrap. I certainly don't plan to use them permanently, that's for sure.

The next product up is bath salts. I have a basic recipe I will be tweaking a bit and sending around to my testers.

And as always, the crochet hook continues on. I am signed up for two new classes in February and March, and am hoping to master those patterns so I can add some more stock to the store.

The store will be up and running within a week or two! My lovely sister-in-law has agreed to play dress up for my camera so I can get some better shots of the merchandise. I will pass the link out as soon as the revamped store is up and running!

I am planning to run some specials too once I have my bath products solidified.
Hi everyone!
I've been hard at work with the crochet hook and yarns lately.
Here is a pic of what I am creating. These have not been blocked yet, so they don't look like perfect squares. I'm waiting on an ironing board and iron so I can make them pretty.

I am creating this mesh open-stitch cloths which are roughly 9x9. After I have 25 of them made, I am going to block them all and then stitch them together to create a blanket. It is going to be a Christmas gift for my grandmother on my boyfriend's mom's side of the family. So grandma-in-law.

I thought it would be fun since I can make these in my sleep practically, and it is a great way to get rid of some of the small balls of yarn that seem to take up the bottom of my yarn tote.

Enjoy.

As always you can find me on Ravelry and Etsy I will be adding stock to Etsy after the holidays.
